Students and Teachers

We liaise closely with History of Art teachers and are familiar with the requirements of the GCSE, AS, A Level, Pre U and IB syllabuses.
Students will be shown works of art which relate to their History of Art curriculum.
A more focused approach is given to Undergraduates with further time spent in areas specific to their courses and modules.

Students, guided in small groups, are encouraged to examine, discuss and debate works of art in context.

Tours are flexible, taking into account clients’ needs and interests.
Please contact us to discuss how we can tailor-make a tour for your group.
Anthony Thompson Art Tours appeal to students of all ages and abilities.

You have the happy combination of knowledge, enthusiasm and the slightly off-beat, humorous ability to keep the interest of teenagers, particularly boys. All the pupils who took part were eager to repeat the experience and I felt they gained both in knowledge and the incentive to go and find out more for themselves, something that is hard to inculcate in the classroom. They came back feeling that it was not ‘uncool’ to be enthusiastic about new experiences, including the study of art and architecture.’
(Sarah Stacpoole – Head of History of Art, Bryanston)

‘Thank you so much for a wonderful trip. The morning sessions with you was definitely the highlight for the students and myself. The student feedback has been so positive; they absolutely loved it. Consequently, two students are now thinking of studying History of Art at university. We will definitely have to do another trip next year!’
(Rowena Tulloch – Head of History of Art, Tudor Hall)

Art History Revision

These revision tours are for all GCSE, AS and A level students who wish to sharpen, refresh and re-invigorate their ‘critical eye’ by engaging face to face with some great art before exams.

Students will visit museums and galleries to examine some of the highlights which are relevant to their syllabuses, as well as seeing one or two of the current exhibitions in Tate Modern and Tate Britain, The National Gallery, The Royal Academy, The Courtauld Gallery and National Portrait Gallery. They will also visit Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Bonhams to preview sales and attend auctions, and some West End galleries and dealers.

‘One never really gets the opportunity to go to all these museums so its really given me a taster to go back.’ - AM

A day you won’t forget…

Half day tour

A stimulating and thought-provoking half day looking at a variety of pictures and sculpture in the V&A,  National Gallery and West End galleries and auction rooms.

One day tour

Students will visit three museums and galleries and examine some of the highlights in each which are relevant to their syllabuses, as well as see one of the temporary exhibitions,  in Tate Modern and Tate Britain, The National Gallery, The Royal Academy, The Courtauld Gallery and National Portrait Gallery. They will also visit Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Bonhams to preview sales and attend auctions, and some West End galleries and dealers.

‘I had imagined looking through whole museums rather than focusing on a few pieces of art in each; I thought this was a much better way to do it, more interesting, less monotonous and I can still picture where paintings were on the wall and how they hung with surrounding art.’

Two day tour

Over these two days students will visit six museums and galleries and examine some of the highlights in each which are pertinent to their syllabuses, as well as see any temporary exhibitions, as well as seeing one or two of the current exhibitions in Tate Modern and Tate Britain, The National Gallery, The Royal Academy, The Courtauld Gallery and National Portrait Gallery.  They will also visit Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Bonhams to preview sales and attend auctions, and some West End galleries and dealers.

This two day tour is highly recommended by past students who found the richness, variety and depth invaluable.

‘Everyone had such a great time and from what I hear found it extremely beneficial. A great way to spend a couple of days in Half Term. Thank you so much!’
